The Mercedes B-Class since 2005 on the market in 2008 was followed by a facelift. A completely new version is scheduled to begin in 2011. A Erlkönig now our photographer went into the net.
Longer, but not so high
While the successor to the A-Class a sportier model will be, remains the B-Class is a compact MPV. This can be seen in the pictures at first glance: The new generation is building up, but probably not quite as high as before. In addition, the car looks now a little longer, especially from the rear overhang is lush. So it may compete with so far only 4.27 meter long car better with the top of the class VW Touran, which measures approximately 4.41 meters. As the tail lights in the Erlkönig appears to have replaced by temporaries, is close to the conclusion that they vary considerably in the new version, unlike in the past.
In the future, “normal” engines
As before, the new B-Class will have a front drive, optional plans a four-wheel drive. Previously there were in the B-Class engines, which are otherwise used only in the A-Class. To save costs, is the change in the future. During the recent W 180 or a 1.7-liter gasoline engine had, which was otherwise used only in the A 180, could get the new B 180 the 1.6-liter gasoline engine from the C 180 Kompressor, possibly without charge.
Modern drives later
Hybrid, electric and fuel cell variants should perhaps follow. You will probably have the sandwich floor, which is known from the still current A-and B-Class. In this space under the floor can be the additional components such as battery or fuel cell stack to accommodate well. An outlook on the technology gave the Mercedes with bLuEzErO studies at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2009 and again at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 2009. Thus, the expected normal B-Class once again have a sandwich bottom.
